We think every community has its own unique people and resources. If you put this knowledge and technology in the hands of more people, better solutions can be achieved and larger problems can be solved.
The Outer Banks of North Carolina is no exception – there are people here from all backgrounds and walks of life, from surfers to shipbuilders, craftsmen, artists, and musicians, among others. We all have something to contribute to the maker movement. The makerspace provides somewhere for all of us to meet and collaborate. The opportunities can be limitless when we come together in a space where creativity has room to grow, and where we can teach each other the skills and expertise that let us build things together that are better than what we could each do on our own.
And, of course, we’re also just a little bit selfish. We want to have a space filled with the latest tools, resources and technologies so that we can use them too! We plan to make current technologies available to the community that would be difficult for individuals to obtain on their own. Working together and collaborating will enable us to fill our OBX makerspace with a wide variety of neat gadgets and machines to build just about anything.
Have you ever had an idea, but just didn’t know where to start? Now you know: come to OBXDIY, the exciting new makerspace in the Outer Banks!
